I would bet most bikes switch to Synthetic, so it's not surprising most of the bikes with problems are running Synthetic. Your South Dakota service manager is confusing association with causation. When you hear the rooster crow, the sun comes up. That's association. If you believe the rooster causes the sun to come up, you are a primitive being and probably work in a South Dakota Harley Davidson shop. I'm just sayin'...
Knows and have met Honest Bob.. Loves him like a Brother.. I also have 2008 FLHT been using Amsoil 20W50 since had 1,000 Miles on it Time will tell... Has 12,000 on it and runs like a Bat out of hell
I had had an old, long time Harley mechanic, (notice I said "mechanic" NOT "technician") explain the difference between regular and synthetic oil to me once. He said, "do you want to get 50,000 miles or 100,000 miles out of your motor. If you prefer the latter use a good synthetic oil, (he recommended Red Line). That was back when Harley said synthetic oil was not good (because they didn't sell it) and now they would have you believe that their synthetic is the best. Not by a long shot!!
Lately, I have noticed a lot of top end noise in my SG and until I read this thread I never connected that my top end noise started about the same time as my last oil change. It was the first time I used Mobil 1. Had previously used dino and Aimsoil but the Amsoil was getting expensive so I switched to the cheaper Mobil 1. Guess you get what you pay for.
I'll be changin' oil this week!
