I'm thinking the "tech" opened the wrong plug to drain your motor oil and quickly replaced it before it all drained out , then forgot to refill the tranny.
Maybe overkill but I've had mine changed at the 1K,5K, and 10K. Mobile 1 75W90. For $9 a quart what can it hurt? It would still tick me off and someone else whould be doing my work from now on.
If it had a half quart in it,it probably didn't do any damage in just a few miles, but a note in the service file is a good idea. More likely, though, it didn't have any oil in it. The trans holds a quart of oil. Why would a tech pour a half quart in and stop ? Believe I'd drain the trans fluid thru a white cloth and check for metal.
Good Luck
Tom
Uh, I think that I'd have THEM do that, and I'd watch. Least they could do-
WOW! That's definitely scarey. Now when the mechanic came to your house to look at it did you watch him the entire time? In other words did you watch him check the level, add a 1/2 quart and then see it was at the Full mark?
If that's the case I'd say you're OK having only gone 10 miles. Good idea to have the service record flagged that this occurred. That way it's "their baby" if the tranny has a problem somewhere down the line...
you only heard the trans making noise part of the time which means that there was oil in the system. don't worry about it 10 miles not long to be that way.
Like been said before.......IF he only put in 1/2 quart then you are ok.....but did you see him only put in a half quart? Also somebody said he pulled the wrong plug and put it back in quickly...that is probably exactly what happened...
