I've taken it back to the dealer and the radio was replaced only to have the same problem come back. dealer says that there's nothing wrong as they cannot duplicate it (aka they don't want to mess with it) just wondering if I can do this myself and possibly fix the problem.

Is your system set up to increase the volume as you speed up? If yes, it may be pulling it back to have room to increase the volume.

no it makes no difference where the avg setting is at , on off or at any of the levels. The new radio worked great for about an hour, I checked the volume control at the handlebar and on the head unit itself and it makes no difference which method is used to adjust the volume I get the same result...full volume for only a quick second then a return to around 3/4. it does this running, sitting still and when only the radio (acc.) switch is used. sound quality is great just the volume is screwed up. I havn't checked the version yet but if it is due the download I think I'll try another dealer and let them tackle it.

I just did the update using the above link and instructions. It was very straight forward and did not take too long to complete. I was not having any problems with my radio but decided to go ahead anyway.

If you upgrade to the latest version and start having problems can you go back to the previous version you had?

WinZip. Send me an email to: lneal68@gmail.com and I'll send you the files unzipped. They're not very large.

A word to the wise. If you are not having problems with your HK radio, Don't do the update.
