Rick
hi guys, a stupid question here.does the pc lll take the place of the harley chip? also where can i get one without losing an arm and a couple of legs!!
HD downloads are designed for very specific applications only. A PCIII is designed to tune an individual bike precisely through a wide ranges of modifications/variables/settings. An excellent tool in the hands of an experienced tuner. Should find one for around $300.
My 2000 RG trashed 2 PC 3 with in just a few weeks Its a good thing the dealer that did the dino and install was good enough to refund my 700$.I Have 95 cc with throttle body bored out 42 mm and stage 2 down load. Im going with a sert the first chance I find a good dealer and dino guy.do the sert .
Well you asked how a PCIII works...so here is my attempt to answer that question.
A computer controls your EFI. That is the Harley ECM. You get it updated to reflect certain mods to your bike. This makes the Fuel/Air Mix better for better performance. The HD downloads are generic. So will not get all the performance out of your bike.
Enter the PCIII. This device slips in between your computer and your EFI. And intercepts the EFI commands and sends them to your bike. Thus when you get a Dyno run, they test your bike's performance at various throttle positions and various RPMs. It takes exhaust samples at every interval to get an exact measurement to make the Air/Fuel Ratio optimal. This is called a MAP. Your MAP will be a 99.9% match for your bike. Thus maximizing its performance.
Do you need it? Maybe / YES. You will get a gain, maybe even dramtically.
The way I justified the PCIII purchase ( I am frugal, you know) was the HD download was $150 for a 60-80% match. for $100 more I could get an exact match. Well that did it for me.
Just curious here, what setting ( high, medium, or low) do you PC III'ers mostly use. I have a friend that has 95', cammed with the PC III and every time he tries me at the light I bust his a$$. I'm running a stock 88 with a SERT and SE slip ons on a EGC. He WILL run me down in 5th gear at WOT on the interstate but he's playing some hard catch up. Just wondering here.
