Default First service question?

Does the stealer do anything else than in the service book on the 1000 miles service, EFI map change or something?

Change fluids/filter and inspect/adjust if required. Nothing you can't handle yourself, if you are comfortable maintaining your ride.

I took mine into the dealer for the 1000 mi service.
They also "fixed" the front brake squeal.
A good tech may spot something that I would certainly miss.

Its a good idea to let the dealer do the first service. Atleast in my opinion, they could possible catch something that you otherwise wouldn't. I'll be doing my own service from here on out though

Based on what I have read here, they may also scratch, kick, scuff, and otherwise deface your pride and joy. Insist that they DON'T wash it.

They also recheck all the bolts, nuts, and belt, for correct torque and adjustment. Since the dealer had to put your bike together when it arrived, the 1k service is more beneficial than just the fluids change.

let's HOPE they really do this - but even if they do - isn't 300 bucks a little steep?

The dealer does not put your bike together when it arrives, they basically inspect it! If you bring it in for the first oil change, how thorough do you think they really are? Both the PDI and first service are moneymakers for the dealer, designed to condition you to return so they can continue to make money. How often do they find a real problem at first service? They don't survive on warranty work, they survive on the service they sell to you. Do it yourself!

Done my 1000 mi. service yesterday on my 06 Electra Glide and found an oil leak between the inner primary and engine case. Its at the dealer now for the oil leak problem. Guess I'll have to climb on the Road King.
