Info on RKC Cruise Control
However, when they ran diagnostics, a number of codes popped up. Turns out I had a short in a wiring harness somewhere between the cruise control and the brake lights. This had caused me to have intermittent brake lights, too. Basically, during the times I couldn't get my cruise to set, I also didn't have brake lights!
I may have noticed this sooner if I were better about doing pre-ride light checks. (I'm better about doing that, now.) Thought this might be good info for any RKC owners.
BTW--they replaced the faulty wiring harness, all parts/labor covered by warranty.
Ride safe!
Good luck with your bike...it looks great.

Quick fix when I got home but I didn't know the break light switch had anything to do with the cruise control.

I have run across something similiar with my cruise ('02 Road King Classic) control. Sometimes when I go to engage it, it will not activate. What you need to do is the Cruise Cable Lash Initialization,
Here is how to do it:
Cruise Control Cable Lash Initialization For Harley Touring Models
1.) With the Ignition off, push the right cruise switch to RESUME and hold it there.
2.) Push the left cruise on/off button to ON.
3.) Turn on the ignition switch and crank the engine. The GREEN ENGAGED light will illuminate for three seconds and go out. When it goes out, release the RESUME switch.
4.) With the bike still running, push the right cruise switch to RESUME again and hold it while the unit pulls in the slack in the cable. When the engine revs up a bit and the green light goes out again, release the RESUME button and turn the ignition switch off.
