Ya know, on a more serious note, back in the day, ya, old school, there were RUBs, posers and true bikers, today they have new names. I remember wannabes, which today is what I consider a poser, someone who wants into the inner circle and is trying to figure out how to get there. We had wealthy guys that rode to look cool and pick up women, if the women decided boaters were cooler, they would sell out and get a boat. Now, what I believe the big difference is, everyone knew where they fit into the categories, so bikers and posers razzed each other because they knew what they were and accepted it in "good brotherhood". There were "bikers" and the 1%ers, also bikers, different level, yet they all respected each other and got along. Why? Because bikers were looked down upon by society so we "banded" together, didn't matter what you rode, wore, whatever, we were brothers brought together by the love of motorcycles, nothing else. The difference today is the damn posers believe they are something else and no one can tell them different, honestly, THEY JUST DON'T GET IT. Oh yeah, I feel a warm flame coming .........

I see it as bikers are the ones that are riding because they love to ride. They will ride whatever piece of crap they can afford at the time wearing whatever cheap gear they can afford at the time. They will be riding even when the weather isn't very good because the ride makes up for the lack of a great bike, great gear and looking cool.

Many of these guys do move up to great bikes and great gear, but you'll still see them out there in less than perfect conditions when they get to jonesin for a ride. These guys love ride and don't let discomforts stop them from enjoying being in the wind. If they fall on hard times and loose their great bike, they will probably pick up something cheap just so they can still get out there.

The ones that only ride when they have the perfect bike, perfect gear on nice sunny days that aren't too hot or too cold and are more in love with people seeing them out there on that bike than the ride itself are the ones I call posers.

Rub just means rich urban biker. They can be either. Some of those rich guys are die hard bikers. I don't hold it against them that they are rich.

people can call me whatever the hell they want. i love to ride my bike! i dont get on it nearly as much as i want because of the michigan weather....but none the less i ride every chance i get and love to see this beautifull country on 2 wheels!

I had a crotch rocket, now i have a harley. I go the hooters bike night on tuesdays and harleys usually line the middle and crotch rockets on the outside and we all get a long because unlike other people we get to expierence somthing most people dont.

Doesnt matter what you ride, poor or rich, i respect the hell out of you for riding!

+1 When I rode the Alaskan Highway in 2001, I ran into people on all kinds of motorcycles, more non-HD than HD. One guy was from Texas on a Honda Dream (remember those). He was averaging higher daily miles than most of the other guys I talked to. Now, is he not a biker because he rides a Honda, yet outrides many others? The rest of the story .... he had a Harley at home, this was his personal mission, to ride his first ever motorcycle from Texas to Alaska. It takes all kinds, because they don't dress, act or ride what "we" think is right don't make them any less a person, in fact, it might make them more of a person we should try to get to know ............. rant over.

I agree with what you said the only thing I would add is that posers and RUB's put LED's on their bikes so people will look at them they want attention.
