Not to take from the thread ....... yeah, I was on my '79, the oldest HD I saw besides mine was an '84. I saw the guy on the Dream, there was a couple in a Model "T" Ford, a bunch of 20 somethings in an old Beetle Micro-Bus painted for the 70's, lots of bicycles, all kinds of crazy stuff. Didn't see, but heard I just missed a guy on a unicycle, can you imagine 1500 miles on a unicycle?

Those are very cool stories tho and those kind of stories are what make us bikers....Myself, I'm a second gen biker and I can remember similiar stories my old man used to talk about. What really gets me going is looking at all his old pictures from back in the day. Times seemed to be more simpler then than now.

I have met posers from a variety of incomes from poor to rich. Some folks just want to be seen being involved in only the surface of whatever cool thing has caught their eye. They are the same kind of people who bandwagon around professional sports teams from season to season.

I have met RUBs who ride and ride and ride. They have all the best gear because they can afford it but they also have their garage properly tooled and wrench their own bikes. They love motorcycling. I have met RUBs who are posers. See paragraph one. As a result, my attempts to define RUB as a good or bad thing is a wash. It depends on the person.

To me, a true biker is someone who rides every chance they get rain or shine, is willing to help a fellow rider, and respects the motorcycle preferences of others.

I remember wannabes, which today is what I consider a poser, someone who wants into the inner circle and is trying to figure out how to get there. We had wealthy guys that rode to look cool and pick up women, if the women decided boaters were cooler, they would sell out and get a boat. Now, what I believe the big difference is, everyone knew where they fit into the categories, so bikers and posers razzed each other because they knew what they were and accepted it in "good brotherhood". There were "bikers" and the 1%ers, also bikers, different level, yet they all respected each other and got along. Why? Because bikers were looked down upon by society so we "banded" together, didn't matter what you rode, wore, whatever, we were brothers brought together by the love of motorcycles, nothing else. The difference today is the damn posers believe they are something else and no one can tell them different, honestly, THEY JUST DON'T GET IT. Oh yeah, I feel a warm flame coming .........
Pretty damn good frog! 'Bout as close to my take on the labels as I've seen in a long time.

RUB.........Rich Urban Biker! Nothin' wrong with that! I'm just one letter away. I'm Urban, & I'm a biker. I'm workin' on my third letter..........

Poser.......Usually the guy with all the new leather, fringe on the handlebars, wax on *everything*, & wantin' everyone to "see him". Nothin' really wrong with that either if that's what you want. Another group I'm in has a member that signs "poser". He likes to show his bikes, he likes to be noticed, but he RIDES.

"Real" Biker.....Beats me. You loose me at "Real"......<shrug>

Biker........Anyone with a life long commitment to motorcycles. I don't care what brand, what kind, etc., just as long as they ride. 40+ years on two wheels, yes, I'm a biker. I have a philosophy; 80% of everyone you meet behind handlebars will be gone in 3 to 5 years. The ones that remain *may* be bikers.

They're labels. If their meaning causes you much concern you may be a "Wimp"...................

No offense bro, but that's clearly over the line! (a little high if you know what I mean, and I'm not talking stoned either)

A nice photo but I hope its the exception and not the rule. Gotta watch out for those SUVs comin the other way and a foot over the line in that direction too!!

These are fun reads. I'll give it a go.

Poser

May or may not have a bike. Puts the whole catalog on his bike. Just runs it to bike night and back just to get away from the old lady. Has to have a logo on everything. dangerous rider and shows off by speeding into and out of bike night. Guns his pipes just to get everyones attention that he's coming or going. Loves everything OCC and Jessie James is his idol. Talks big but knows nothing. More or less thrashes any bike religiously unless it's MOCO. Sometimes he'll thrash Sportsters because he's on a Dyna. HD can do no wrong..... you get the picture.

RUB

Hard one. I know some guys that can afford the best of everything and can and do ride a lot because they can afford to take 2 months off and ride from one end of the continent to the other. They always have the best stories because they get to do some crazy rides that just make you think " Man I hope I win the lottery so I can do that"

Then there are the other RUBs
Have the best of everything. Bike has no miles. Trailer the bike on trips if they even go. Have their bike done up an sits in the garage just so they can say they have one. weather has to be perfect. Basically the bikes a social status item.

Biker

Will even stop if another bike is on the side of the highway taking a rest to make sure reguardless of make or model that they're all good. Will ride in almost anything just because. Loves all things 2 wheels, dirt, sport, touring, chopper. When times are tough, , outside of your house, willing to downgrade and drive a car that you paid a buddy $1 for so you can keep the bike. hate snow and love pavement without it.
Basically respect earned and givin.

There's more to it, but I'll stop here. Don't take it too seriously and just enjoy. Let other pick your label and shrug your shoulders. You can't worry about what others think anyhow.
