I already have the hearing loss described by many above. It's primarily due to the years and years of riding without plugs. Use them now, although not religiously, I always use them if I"m on the scoot for more than hour. You'll know why you use them in about 20 years from now. It's the wind noise that's deafening.

The wife and I both wear good FF helmets and use earplugs now.
We both have some hearing loss and what you lose, you can never get back.

I wish I was smarter years ago about hearing loss.
We use the foam earplugs (make sure you get the right size, they come in a few sizes), I buy them at the beginning of the riding season in large boxes, cheap - use and toss.

I have them and wear them sometimes but not all. They really do help cut out the wind noise and allow you to hear the radio clearer.

Just what everyone else has said, if you experience pain or ringing in your ears, you have just had some damage to your hearing (my work pounds that into our heads).

I just got some custom fit earphones for 45$, I use them and they are really great. Just the same as the 300$ ones but you mold them yourself. http://www.earfuze.com/ Again I highly recommend them.

Protect your ears on the bike, in the shop or anywhere. You don't want to miss out when the 'little woman' whispers that she want's to go to the bedroom!

I only wear them on the superslab..... @ 80 mph and wearing a half helmet the wind noise is draining after ten hours ...I use the foam disposable free from work......

Wind noise and wind noise. Used to use the foam ear plugs and had some made at a rally. Best 80 bucks I have ever spent.

They go in much faster and easier. They cancel noise better and the hole for the stereo works great.

Now get you a pair and you will understand why we wear them.

Get a bag of Mack's green ear plugs (10 pr) at WalMart for a couple of bucks. very comfortable and when they get nasty looking after a couple of days toss the pair and start fresh. no probs hearing helmet speakers/intercom through them. makes a huge difference at the end of the day. 500-600 mile days are no problem with the wind not rushing past your ears.

Wind noise for over an hour @ Highway speeds will cause irreparable hearing loss.

Check out the following site for Custom Ear Plugs... http://www.sensaphonics.com/

been wearing earplugs for years, mainly when on the interstate for longer rides due to the wind noise. I even wore them in full face helmet on sportbikes.
