Default Roadking performanc

Last year I had the tensioners checked for wear on my 2002 RKC I had 25k on the bike Harley told me that they looked good and should get another 20k out of them. So, now at 29k I'm thinking of performance upgrades either I get a Andrews 26g cam or a PCIII and V&H Pro-Pipe due to budget I can't do both at this time. My Indy says he can do the gear cam without effecting the ECM download or the other option is to trade the king in on a new superglide and start with the 2009 engine and customize it. If I keep the king then which is the better short term performance option pipes or cam? or am I better off with a new HD engine? I do like the dyna but the king has been good to me.

Comments?

Pat

26G's work for me.

Sure, you can put in 26G's and the bike will run ok, it will run better with some FI tweaking. IMO, you will get more bang for your buck out of a cam swap than an exhaust swap, unless you are running stock pipes right now.

Do what you want...I wouldn't trade my 75k mile 2000 Road King for a brand new Superglide.

Default exhaust

I'm running stock exhaust with sampson fishtail slipons. People still tell me that the cam will give me better performance. I was thinking that the cam with a PCIII might be best. I'm also looking at a trading in on a 2005 road glide 103"

Sounds like you're heading in to many different directions at the same time.
Do you want the road king.
Maybe a road glide
Maybe a super glide
Maybe cams
Perhaps you need two bikes.

One other thing to consider before you decide is whether you believe that "newer is better." While dealers are likely to tell you that, many members on this forum have expressed the belief that your model year (2002) represents the best year for the Twin-Cams based upon the crank construction and run-out, bearings, swing arm, Delph FI, etc.

For what it is worth, when faced with the same question (I have a 2001 Road King), I decided that newer is not always better. As a result, I put a lot of improvements into mine including Andrews 21g cams and have no regrets about all the money lost on resale ... because it is not likely to go up for sale or trade.

Default thanks rock4gzus

I have talked to several individuals who have the same opinion and I'm leaning to keeping the king. It seems like the way to go is to get a PCIII and the cam then add the exhaust next year.

I dropped the Stage II kit with the performance cam into my RKC. I'm convinced the cam made all the difference in the world. I haven't traded my RKC in for any other bike simply because she runs so great. If you have to space the two into two different times, ask this... If you change the pipes you'll add some horses but get a great sounding ride (that's a different thread) but if you change the cams you won't change the sound (much) but will outrun any other stock 88 on the road. So, sweet sound or a hot running sleeper? Tough choice for sure...
