Thumbs up NEED ADVICE! touring

i currently own a 2007 e/glide and previous owned a 2006 and 2003 roadking. i hav always purchased a new bike before factory waranty ran out. i have had good reliability from all 3 bikes while under factory coverage up to 20K. due to economical reasons i am considereing keeping my 07 for several years and running it up into 50K range. my question is how is the overall reliability and durability on the 07"s for long term ownership? what usually occurs or are they good for high mileage. what is your experiance? after reading this forum for a long time i get concerned of what appears to be weak areas in this area. one friend of mine says they are "bullet proof" and another says he doesnt trust "em. need to decide to trade again, extend the waranty coverage, or go metric{not!}, or just ride? what is your history over time good or bad on a high mile TC 96 touring bike?

cant speak for 07's in particular but have owned 3 different harleys over 26 years and kept each one llooonnnnggggg past the warranty with out any problems. and I've ridden these bike, they weren't just ornaments. and one of those was an AMF. just take care of it and it will take care of you. ride and enjoy. one thing I've noticed on this forum is that people put way too much thought into this and that.

I'm keeping my 07 EG for the long haul.... Unless HD comes out with something I just can't resist...

I've heard from several others that 80+K was the norm before major problems started...

I can appreciate why someone would want to trade up on that kind of a schedule, but I believe if someone takes good care of their bike, it should be reliable and last well over 70k. I plan to keep mine and hope to be a member of the 100k club..

My '07 was flawless for 2 years. Then I had 2 issues as soon as the factory warranty expired (go figure). BUT the dealer covered both of them for me so no worries. My radio auxilliary input developed a short and, most recently, I learned that I had a defective fuel line disconnect coupler where it exits the tank. Neither was a big deal, even if I had been footing the bill. If they hadn't covered the radio I would have replaced it with a Sony though.

The 2002 Heritage I traded in for my 2009 SG had 49,000 miles on it and it was still going strong. The previous owner and I both kept up with scheduled services and kept it clean.

As to the 2007 models, I can't really say. I had mine for 3 weeks before I totaled it out the day before the 1000 mile service.

Buy new or buy the extended warranty . . . either way you will sleep well about future repairs . . . if you bought the extended warranty it would be cheaper than a new scoot . . . especially if you like your 07 . . . this same time 3 years from now we will all be drooling over the 2013 110th anniversary bikes! So, will an extended warranty give you the peace of mind till then? Looks like you like a new bike every year or two. You might not be happy waiting for 3 years even with an extended warranty.

You never know , But if you maintained you should be fine for many more miles. Friend of mine had 135000 on his with very little if any problems. Sold machine ,guy that bought put another 10000 and bike was stolen. It was a early 2000 ultra.
