Default Longride shields-my impressions

first, i have an aftermarket fairing that supposedly uses stock hd shields. i had been running with a 6 inch, but when getting up around 75 or higher, i got a lot of windnoise that interfered with the stereo. i had been wanting to try a clearview or klockworks, but did not want to spend that kind of money on an experiment.

enter long ride shields. promises of high quality, low prices, we'll do what it takes to make you happy etc.

well the price is definitely right. so i take the plunge and email matt with my concerns. he emails me back right away. based on my initial email to him, he recommends that i go with the 8". me being stubborn, and on the short side to boot, end up going with the 6" medium tint.

shield is shipped right away and tracking number sent. unfortunately, this is the sticks so it takes ups a week to get here, then of course it has to rain for a week after that..... but, the day that it gets here, i go ahead and install it. quality seems first rate, and the fit is perfect (remember this is an aftermarket fairing). now if the rain will stop.....

finally, a dry day. i take it for a quick 20 mile jaunt. the first thing i notice is a definite decrease in the amount of wind around my head and ears. its not gone, like an air pocket, but probably decreased by 75%. so far, it seems to help with the sound of my stereo as well. can't wait to take a longer trip.

couple of days later, planning a quick trip to the city, thats about 60 miles one way, with speed limits ranging from 45 to 65. well, my initial findings still hold. the shield works great, and as promised, lrs customer service is top notch. oh, and in keeping with matt's recommendations, i'll be ordering the 8" for when i go on a multi state, multi day trip. but for now, i'll stick with the 6".

i was gonna move the bike for the pics, but i figured the car and the truck in the background would give you an idea of how the medium tint is. with the 8", i think i'll be looking more through the shield so i'll go with the light tint there. and ignore the bugs, haven't cleaned the bike yet.....

I wish they had a smoke or light smoke.
My harley service guy in DFW cracked the center hole in the windshield. I think when it runs larger or longer (the crack) I will have to get another. Of course I didnt see it until I got it home and took the fairing off...

do you have to take the inner/outer fairing off to install one of these or can you just loosen the three screws and remove/install it?

Got mine in a week, crossing border and all.
I went with the 9", light smoke.
Wanted to get the 8", but my passenger had other ideas.
So far it acts like the 12" stock, as far as wind turbulence.
Can see thru, no problem.

Might have to sneak on a 7 or 6 and see if I get away with it!
Would definitely buy from them again.

Ride Safe!

take a small drill bit and drill a tiny hole at the very end of the crack, it will stop there.
