My wife and I are planning on taking a vacation the 2nd week of September. I am looking for warm temperatures during the day and comfortable temps at night. I am thinking either Henderson or Reno or even Florida. I can gamble and my wife can stay at the pool. I plan on staying about 1 week and plan on renting the bike for 3 days. We want to have one GOOD hotel and then take day trips for the 3 days we have the bike. What do you guys think? We do alot of riding here in NYC, and my wife doesn't mind a vacation where we do "a bit" of riding..not an entire vacation of riding...so that is why I only plan on doing day trips and only for 3 days......
Might give Las Vegas consideration. You can rent a bike there and then head out to St. George Utah which is the gateway to Bryce Canyon and Zion National Park. You would want to do at least one over night in St. George or further out. Finish up in Vegas.
We are doing a similar trip with friends about the same time frame.
Depends on what your focus is. If it's great riding, scenery, and some spectacular views, you might just consider Western Montana. I've got buddies that fly out from the east coast every year, and they absolutely love it. I can still remember my best buds response after his first day of riding here. He called his wife and said: "Put the house up for sale, we're moving to Montana".... Of course he didn't, but that illustrates how people that haven't seen this area react after riding it. The weather that time of year is exactly as you described. Usually a 40-50 degree swing in daytime and night time temps.
Do Reno, NV. Ride up to Lake Tahoe in about 45 minutes, one of the most beautiful lakes in the world. You can ride all the way around the lake. Lot's of places to stop, take pictures, eat and drink. Then you can ride to Virginia City, an old gold/silver minings town that is a great ride up the mountain. Lot's to explore and lot's of inexpensive casinos to stay in. Reno HD is a good dealership to deal with. Let me know when you get here, I'll lead!
ps: Sept 23rd thru 27th is Street Vibrations. 30,000+ Harleys in town! Also every vendor known to man.

This would be a good ride... If you never done a fly and ride before... you need to call Harley and set it up.... not that many places in the states that do the fly and ride program but if you find one, the prices are GREAT... I have done
Boston - rode to Nova Scotia
AZ - rode for 10 days on a FLHTCI before I bought one - wanted to try it out
Our best fly and ride was Alaska..
I use http://www.wunderground.com/ They have a button called "Trip planner" it allows you to enter a city or zip code and YOU pick a two week period and it will bring back a 5 year average and complete history of the weather for those two weeks.. below is for Fairbanks AK... might be a little cold in Sept but the week we spent in AK on our fly and ride bike was GREAT
I did the fly and ride to Peterson's HD in Miami. Great place. The worst part was the 45.00 taxi from Ft Lauderdale. I then rode to Key West which I had never been to key west. Great ride, like riding on water. If you do that ride, take search the forum for key west and don't speed.
One of the previous posts recommended contacting the fly and ride program first. That is a good recommendation. It seems the MOCO only have a few dealers in the fly and ride program and each dealer has limited bikes. But, if you can get one, by far this is the best way to go. You get a new bike, serviced, and the price is great. You will have to confirm with your insurance that you are covered while renting. I think my insurance covers me for 3 consecutive weeks of rental.
