Default V&H True Dual Installation Help Needed

I've changed exhaust many times, from slip ons to full systems. I'll tell you, getting the exhaust off of a bagger is a nightmare!

Anyhow, I have the stock headers off and need some help. I purchased the V&H True Duals, but I would imagine that the installation of other dual system is similar.

#1 - This one is hard to explain. The clamp for the right pipe that goes through the stock bracket under the transmission cover does not fit through the available space. Does just the bolt portion of the clam go behind the bracket?

#2 - The installation instructions indicate that the right floorboard needs to be removed. I did so. But now it looks like the bracket needs to be removed, not just the floorboard. True? Any way to get to the bracket without a bike lift? Is it just 1 bolt? Or, any tricks to getting the pipe on with the floorboard bracket in place?

#3 - Any trick to getting the right header on with the heat shields already installed?

#4 - Is this going to be worth the trouble?

Thanks, John

John:
It's been a long time since I installed mine........but as I recall, the right floorboard does need to be removed. The clamp that goes around that bracket under the inspection cover is a tricky little thing......much patience required. Install the heatshields loosely. The left side is much easier to install if you have another set of hands assisting alignment. Use the clamps provided by V&H.......do not re-use the HD muffler clamps....they are too thick.
Above all, install everything loosely, especially the heatshields, then tighten from the headbolts and proceed progressively towards the rear. And get somebody to assist in just holding parts in place as you tighten the headbolts.......watch your torque values.

After you get everything buttoned up snug, go for a short ride, let it cool down and recheck the fittings for tightness. Remember, patience! Something I'm woefully short of, especially when something that seems so simple turns out to be kinda complex.

Hang in there..............stay at it.

There are spacers to move the right floorboard out about an 1/8" to make room for the headpipe. These should be provided in the V&H's package. Actually the spacers move the floorboard brackets out.

So...looks like the floorboard brackets need to be removed...not just the floorboard itself (the instructions were not clear on this). I'll have to find a way to get under there for access.

By my bigger concern is the clamp that connects near bracket near the transmission. Check out the pic I've attached.

Should the part that I've circled in red go through the bracket...or does it sit above the transmission bracket? It is not even close to being able to fit through. I would say it is too large to squeeze through by at least 1/4 inch!

Thanks, John

It goes through....but I believe it goes up through the bottom.......been a long time, like I said. Also, you might have to do a little grinding on the left side supprt bracket with a Dremel for clearance. Trial fit first.

I am so frustrated. That clamp will not fit in either direction. The circular portion on both ends of the clamp is simply too large. To grind I would have to take a ton off of the bracket. I just have to be doing something wrong. V&H sells a million of these. How can I be the only one having this problem???????

OK...I think I have it.

The round "barrel" portion of the clam does not go through the transmission clamp. However, when you tighten it completely, the 2 barrel ends pull together all the way. In fact, I was surprised that they pulled together so far, as there is no slack.

I also was able to get the floorboard off. Reason I struggled on that component was that I could not feel the allen bolt. It was hidden behind wires.

Anyhow...obviously I am not the most experienced master builder in the world. And I do appreciate all of your help.
