Started SE 113 Build
#12
Also subscribing for future reference...I'm trying to figure out what I want to do with my motor work...my buddy gave me a set of SE255 cams and I wanted to go to Branch O'Keefe to port/polish the heads. I thought this would give me a nice little bump until I get my money together for a full out build. Now I don't know if I should wait on the head work and only do the cam install (along with new 2:1 exhaust and PCV/AT)...too many decisions and too little money!

are you wanting to use the 255 cams on a stock 96 or a 103 ? i feel that they are kinda of a small cam for a larger engine. for the 110s or 113 you may want to use the 258s if you are stuck on using the SE stuff. There are better cams out there but you have to decide what style of riding you do
for me i live in NM and we have alot of 2 lane roads. I usually have to pass 3 or 4 cars at once in a very small time frame so i tailored my engine for most power from 40-90mph.
step one- find out what rpm range you ride at the most and what rpm range you are wanting to see more performance in

FINALLLLY!!!! i just got the crankshaft back from being trued and welded. A++ to the guys at RevPerf. runout was .0025 and after its .0003
Now the crank is back in the cases and the cases are "resting" for 12-24 hrs. this helps ensure the seal is set up properly.
only issue so far is we forgot to order the cam suport plate bearing. luckly the local hd shop has one . so if you are doing a cam change on the newer bikes and have to press out the bearing dont forget to order one..
hopefully by saturday i will have this thing put together and ready to ride.
thanks

the rally was a blast and i got to put 500miles on in 2 days. now time for oil/filter change.
well i have to say the 113 kit is an amazing improvement over the 96. this is how a harley is supposed to feel when its on the road. i tried to keep the corrected compression lower than 9.4 but i think it is around 9.6.
have had 2 hard starts when bike was hot but fired up in 3 revolutions. the valve train noise is very loud but sounds like a well built machine. the 6th gear is fun now not sluggish but be ready to run. cruizing rpms is now moved up from 2.5 to 3.2 and in 6th gear that is around 85mph. lower than 3.0 rpms the bike sounds a little sluggish. i built it for middle rpm power due to the fact that we ride 85-90 everywhere we go so its a prefect fit.
will have it dyno tuned on the 5th so wish me luck with the hp numbers .

hello
ur right smiles are never ending when ridding this scoot. this is the way all harleys should run IMO. its night and day compared to stock and still gets around 38mpg.
with the cam that i put in there, 2800 rpms is the lowest on any gear that i am able to run. lower than that the bike seems to wanna stall due to the hight lift cam.
so i run 90mph in 6th gear now and it likes that speed . perfect for the long open highways here in NM and W. Tx
the dyno run shows a good hp curve and a well rounded tq curve between 3-5k rpms. it puts out 110hp and 115 tq not bad for my first build.
the power could be brought up some more with a 2-1 pipe but i like the power duals i have on there.
no issues as of yet and hot starts arent a problem anymore after the dyno tune. thanks for everyones help and looking forward to the next project= Jims 131 w/big bore kit from RevPerf !!
