The change was made in late 07/early 08 I believe. There was no new part number it was a 'running change'

Garemlin, if you ask your HD parts guy to do a kit inquiry on vivid black vented fairing lowers (p/n 58854-05DH), it will show that the vented lower assembly part nos. are 58851-05DH and 58915-05DH for the left and right sides.

However, the part nos. for the fairing caps are 58941-10DH (left) and 58492-10DH (right) with "DH" being the paint code for vivid black, and "-10" being the year of the part.

So, even thought HD retained the same part no. for the vivid black vented fairing lowers, HD changed the fairing caps in that kit. Presumably, this part no. change for the caps is common to all of the colors.

As for replacing a cap on an '08 and it being different from the OEM cap, the cap would be ordered with the part no. appropriate for that model year and color. For example, if you needed a vivid black left fairing cap for an '08 Ultra, the part no. would be 58491-05DH and HD shows this part as still being available. In other words, matching fairing caps are still available as a replacement part.

Carl

The fairing is moved .008"? I would think it gets more than that with a good bump when walking near it. .008" is thinner than a peice of paper.
