No they were not making payments to HD, as I posted above. There was a recent rebate of 3 grand off msrp. So the sales rep told you a little white lie to show you how "desperate" he was to sell the bike.......in the end, you still got a great deal.

Always enjoyed making the dealers sweat,it's half the fun of buying a new machine.Work the dealers against each other,or say you have found a private sale.Work the system it pays in the end.

+ 1. I checked with 3 or 4 dealers within 100 miles. The one I dealt with gave me the price OTD on the phone (with out management approval), had no problem with me shopping around, beat another deal by $600 bucks, took a personal check and gave me some nice freebie's.
I paid only the price of the bike plus sales tax and came in under MSRP.

Doesn't matter what the dealer paid. All that matters is what you'll pay. Decide what it's worth to you and buy it or not. But, know this...Whatever you pay it WILL be less the second you drive it off the lot. Oh, and someone else will always get the same bike for less after you buy it.

I buy used bikes that are at least 3 years old. I have a 2001 Fatboy that had about 5k in add ons and 10000 miles for $15000.00 in 2006. I also have a 2000 Road Glide that had 30000 miles on it for $10000.00 in 2007. Both are great bikes and have had no problems with either of them. My buddy just bought a 2007 RK with 1500 miles on it for $11,000 and it has about 5k in extras. The used market is super soft right now making it easier to deal with private sellers. Gone are the days of actually making your money back on these bikes.

Thanks for all of your replies--- so very useful info---

Too bad we don't have a sticky Forum to post our deals, I mean, if everyone listed what they paid and for what and where, it would show us which dealers are willing to deal and which are not--

thanks again----

looking for comments on this deal:

for 2009 ultra with abs and sec

dealer sticking to MSRP of 22669

trade in 2007 ultra with stage one that was involved in accident. insurance will fix and dealer will take as is. will give me 13500. that seems to be trade in value according to blue book etc.

freight is 949 - this seems high

documentation fee 150 - again high. that is like 1100 in add on cost.

no reduction in lifetime main (1859) or extended warranty to 7 yrs (1988).

i will be getting money back from the extended warranty on the 07 of maybe around 800. not real sure of the amount.

here is what he will give me:

- remove from the 07 and put on the 09 any extras that will fit. he will do this at no cost. this should include:
trunk luggage rack
road pegs
rider adjustable seat back (this will cost $50 for an upgrade part)
air horn
kuryakin driving lights

also he will give me a stage one installed for free (that is around 1200 i think)

maint and electric manual for free

install of other items for free
- heated grips

and lifetime 15% off all harley purchases in the store

so i am thinking that i am getting around 1500 or so off with the stage one, the labor expense for the install of the items, and the manuals.

i am going to try for some more off, but trying to figure the best place to put it. like higher trade in, less freight, reduced lifetime maint or some combination.

anyway - let me know what you all think
