I bought a Hitchdoc hitch for my '09 RG, after searching I went with a complete wiring harness from Mchitch.
Everything came with complete detailed instructions that are fool proof.
you might find an independant shop that will install your hitch, but I have found the HD shops will not install a hitch on your bike, (Amarillo, TX would not even talk about installing a hitch on a new Ultra when I was shopping for one in 2007. I was going to buy a new bike there and have it rigged out ready to roll complete with a new hitch two weeks before I came thru from East Texas and picked it up headed for a week of Colorado cruising. They wouldn't even consider doing the hitch, said HD doens't allow it) nor will they work on your bike with a trailer attached to it (at least inside the shop). Farmington, NM had me unhook from my trailer before they would work on the bike. All that was needed was a sending unit for 6th gear light, which just screws into the top of the transmission. Easy fix, 10 minute job, but they wouldn't do it without the trailer removed. DOn't get me wrong, Four Corners HD in Farmington bent over backwards to get us on the road, even stayed late since we arrived at quitting time. Shop rules may have dictated no trialers, I don't know. It all worked out anyway. Bike fixed and I was on my way.
First simple job I bought a used hitch so I had no instructions it didnt take but a minute to figure how to put it on. as far as wiring Iuse the kury plug n play isolation set I also bought the kury 5 to 4 adapter could not get it to work ending up going to a hitch store and buying 1 of theirs that did.
when I was looking for a hitch I called the two closest multi store dealers in my area one parts person told me they wouldnt even sell me a hitch the other said come on in they would be happy to order me one. so it varies owner to owner.
I installed mine in about 2 hours. No big deal, just take your time. Common tools is all that is needed except the tork driver, I think it is a 40 to remove the 4 screws on the fender strut. The www.mchitch.com is down right now.

There is a motorcycle trailer forum on Delphi (that is trailers to haul with a motorcycle) They have lots of info. You can create a delphi account for free and there are lots of good forums, including electra glide forums, General HD forums and anything else.
(If mentioning another forum is a violation or in bad taste, I'll delete this)
