I'm that neighbor, and Mainshaft is right, nothing to it. I ordered mine from MC hitch but there are several manufacturers out there. Everything bolted right up, no drilling or welding. Almost can't see it when the receiver part is pulled off.
I keep all my camping and fishing stuff in the bike trailer. When weather and time permits I throw my youngest son on the back and were gone.
Hi
Thats my next project.
What do you prefer ? ;
the type that are chrome and "all in one" OR the ones where you can take off the tow ball (usually square section steel ?).
Also - is it best to use a plug/socket system on the bike or hard
wire it to the bikes electrical system ?
Thanks all.
Rowle.
If you order the hitch from www.mchitch.com you cant go wrong. Great hitch direct bolt on and they offer a plug and play that connects right under the seat. No muss no fuss.
you might find an independant shop that will install your hitch, but I have found the HD shops will not install a hitch on your bike, (Amarillo, TX would not even talk about installing a hitch on a new Ultra when I was shopping for one in 2007. I was going to buy a new bike there and have it rigged out ready to roll complete with a new hitch two weeks before I came thru from East Texas and picked it up headed for a week of Colorado cruising. They wouldn't even consider doing the hitch, said HD doens't allow it) nor will they work on your bike with a trailer attached to it (at least inside the shop). Farmington, NM had me unhook from my trailer before they would work on the bike. All that was needed was a sending unit for 6th gear light, which just screws into the top of the transmission. Easy fix, 10 minute job, but they wouldn't do it without the trailer removed. DOn't get me wrong, Four Corners HD in Farmington bent over backwards to get us on the road, even stayed late since we arrived at quitting time. Shop rules may have dictated no trialers, I don't know. It all worked out anyway. Bike fixed and I was on my way.
you might want to give these folks a look, don't know if they are doing ones for the new bikes with wider rears yet, but worth checking out. They make the neatest receiver style chrome hitch I have seen. Looks nice, very functional.
