For the record It's pronounced 'L-nos in the southern part of the state. Up thar in Chtcago they pronunce it Illinaus (and Cheecaugoe). The S is only silent in the middle of the state.
Well, if it keeps me safer whilst riding in Northern Illinaus as you say I'm all for that freedom being taken away. By the way us northerners just say we're going to the city not cheecago as you say.

Texting while driving is wreckless driving. Wreckless driving is already illegal. Wreckless driving while talking on a cell phone, changed a cd, eating, daydreaming, being too tired to be on the road or whatever else is causing you to be wreckless is already illegal.

This is just one more law that will have zero impact on our safety, but it makes some people feel good that something is being done. BTW, I hate texting altogether and can't imagine why anyone would want to text while driving.

Here in Cal, talking on a cell phone has been illegal since Jan. But I think I see more people on them now than before. It's all about the money.

Yeah it's a hugh start and a great day in Illinois. I hope this goes over in all 50 states as well and more importantly I hope it's enforced as well as if your the cause of an accident while texting and driving, prosecute them to the fullest and a lenghty jail sentence. They all think driving is a toy and a game. It's a priviledge to be able to drive, it's not my choice way of losing my life due to some moron texting someone while driving. Sorry had to get that off my chest. Lol.

Non-related points:

1) If you ever see me on the phone while I'm driving (a car) it's long enough to say "Sure honey - Gallon of milk" or "I'll call you when I get in" and that's it. I don't have phone conversations while I'm driving.

2) Whether in a car or on the bike, almost everyone I can recall that almost sent me to my maker in the last bunch of years was on a cell phone at the time. Most of them probably aren't even aware of the fact that they almost took me out.

3) It blows my mind that over a third of respondents actually admit to texting while driving. Over a third *admit* to it. Let that sink in...

4) It also blows my mind that they have to pass a law on such things. I most certainly understand why they are - But it still blows my mind that such a law is necessary (underlying meaning: It blows my mind that so many people are that stupid).

Texting or talking on a hand=held cell phone is illegal in N.J. and it hasn't made one bit of difference. I see local P.D.'s driving and talking on cell phones. If they can do it, how can they enforce the law.

I think banning text messaging while driving is or should be a “No Brainier” for legislators and I can’t understand why it isn’t a federal law.

Like others, I too have concerns about enforcement but it does give the Cops one more “Probable Cause” justification for pulling someone over!

With all due respect............. I don't think you will actually find anyone who holds their right to text higher than the lives of you loved ones, or any other human life. You are missing the point completely like over half of everyone in our current political environment.

We are not trying to decide which is more important, my right to text, or human life. We will all agree that human life is more important than every test message ever sent. With your logic, as soon as it becomes illegal to drive like an idiot, there will be no more traffic fatalities. Distracted driving is already ILLEGAL! Making it more speciffic will not help.

The point is that this law will not keep your loved ones safe. It is a way to make give you a false sense of security that your loved ones will now be safe or at least safer on the road.

Those who would trade freedom for security deserve neither. Those who would trade freedom for false security deserve nothing.
