Well it's a start lets' just see if and how they can enforce such a law. Below is the article...
CHICAGO (AP) -- Gov. Pat Quinn and Illinois lawmakers have a message for motorists: It's time to put down your cell phones.
Quinn will sign a new law Thursday that bans text messaging while driving.
But motorists don't have to go cold turkey.
While drivers can't read their e-mail or text if they're moving, they can check messages if they pull over to the side of the road or are at a standstill in traffic.
The ban doesn't prevent drivers from reading directions on a navigation system.
Quinn is slated to sign the bill at a ceremony at Northeastern Illinois University in Chicago with Secretary of State Jesse White.
Well at least it's a start. Hopefully they can find a way to eliminate cell phone use by anything other than speaker or headset too. In our state I think we have a ban on holding a cell phone and talking while driving, but I still see it all the time.
While I commend the effort, I don't really see this getting much enforcement. About the only thing this would be good for is generating additional revenue after a wreck has happened. They could go back and check the phone log if someone suspected they were texting.
Thanks for the update!!!!!!!! Its a beautiful day in Illinois(S is silent) Get out and ride!!!!!!!
You mean to tell me the "S" is silent...MAN here I've lived all my life in Illinois and didn't know the "S" was silent. What about the "I" in the beginning is that silent too? I have always pronounced "OUR" State as ILL-IN-OY...Now i think you are a little closer to that their WISCO land.....And i know fer a fact that they Pronounce the "S"....... Now sorry for highjacking your thread...BACK to the task at hand,or in hand as the case may-be.....
Oh good, another law another piece of freedom being chipped away.
For the record It's pronounced 'L-nos in the southern part of the state. Up thar in Chtcago they pronunce it Illinaus (and Cheecaugoe). The S is only silent in the middle of the state.

Id rather have my right to text while driving rights taken away than one of my family members or my own life taken away. Hell, with that kind of logic, why not just legalize murder? Then we'd have the right to kill whoever for whatever and wouldnt have to pay taxes to keep people in prison. Who needs to wake up now?
