I took mine off the day after I purchased 'cause I thought it was for lazy people and it just seemed to get in the way, when I went to the dealer for my first service the guy said "Nice boot dude", and I put it back on. Now I understand.

I took my heel shifter off too. I also had my pants leg hook on it at a stop sign and .... almost dropped the bike! I took it off as soon as I got home. The Harley shop had a little chrome cover for the exposed spline too. I forget how much it cost, but it looks nice. I like the extra room on the floorboard also. I just got back from a 1200mi round trip to Tenn. It was nice having the extra room to move around. Oh yeah, before I forget .... my heel shifter is for sale ..... almost new!!!!

Lowered the heel shifter as low as it would go and I ride with foot flat on footboard. Now that I have been using it I don't think I could do without!!!

ORIGINAL: Neckball

It is my understanding that the heel shifter was added at the request of the motor officers in an effort to preserve the shine on the toe of their boots
And that it does. Saves a lot of wear and tear, time & effort. I've been a M/O since 1991 and the heel shifter is great. A matter of personal preference, your milage may vary.

I have size 11.5 feet, there was no way I could get comfortable with stock shifters. I put extended shifters on. 2" on the rear and 1" on the front, put them as low as I could. Perfect, total comfort and ease of shifting. I just love the setup now!

So let me get this straight. It's upshift with the heel and downshift with the toe? Not trying to be funny just trying to understand. Never said I was a genius.
