Just installed the HD headset, and I'm less then impressed with the sound quality. The helmet speakers start distortint at 50 percent volume, and the ignition noise is really bad...are other users having the same problem? Or maybe I have a bad headset?
The HD headset is very good for voice communication and listening to talk radio and not so good for listening to stereo music no matter the source. I would suggest an upgrade to a J&M headset for you music.
I have an 09 Ultra Classic. My wife and I rode from California to Colorado and back in May. This was our first time using the headsets. We used them for communication/intercom, and listening to music. Maybe I just don't have sensitive ears, but the HD headsets worked just fine. Both voice communications and music sounded good to me.
Mine seem to work perfectly on my 07 Ultra. I get great quality for music and communication. Make sure you install them correctly. The closer you get the speakers to your ears the better it gets. I bet that's your problem. I love my Ultra head set and would not consider getting anything else.
On my 09 the sound is not great unless you push them against your ear with your hand. Its kinda tough when I need one hand on the bars. Ok for intercom and cb - not for music.
T
Harley set is good communications, but lousy for music. Go with the J&M Elite Set.... I'm going to at some point. Lately, been just wearing half helmets and listening to my Hawgtune speakers.... they sound good. :-)
I have not had problems with mine, sound quality could
be better as far as music is concerned. I have adjusted the
speakers inside the pockets to where they sit directly on
top of my ears and did the same for the wifey and that
made a great amount of improvement! Another member
posted he had to press them up to his ears and that is what
I basically did and did a little hand sewing to keep them where
they would stay right on top of my ears, just took a 13k trip
and had the sound pushed through to my helmet on the whole
trip with no problems. Just a thought for you.
I agree, no good for music. The only way I can listen to my music is if I turn the bass all the way down. If I don't, and turn the volume up over half way, I get distortion.
Somebody posted on here a place where you could order replacement speakers for the headset that really made a great improvement, and the price was like 25.00 for a set. Don't remember who posted or where it was at...................??
