Default Red line increase

I just traded in my 07 Night Train for a new 09 Electra Glide Classic. I had done so much work to the Night Train and it ran great. Now I dont want to get into pipes and fuel management etc... . I have only put on some Rush slip ons, but wish I had a bit more RPM's available to me, maybe 6,000rpm. Can you increase the Rev Limiter on the stock ECU without doing a power commander or sert or something else along that same line?

Thanks

The dealer download will increase the rev limiter.

That's because it's hit or miss and you get better reliability with a tuner and a dyno tune.

exactly. Eventually I will put some full pipes and tuner and air filter kit on it. but for now I am too cheap lol. I was hoping that maybe the mechanic could just hook up the computer to the ECU andmake a quick change

As Dawg mentioned, it can be hit or miss.
There really is no easy answer, the tech/mechanic at the dealership hooks your ecm up to the scannelizer and plugs in the numbers from the cartridge that you purchased.
no fuss, no muss, either you are good to go or you ahve popping on decel or you dont or you can buy a fuel mang. set up by directlink or power commander or some other fuel pack and off to the dyno you go.
Then again, you can have the HD shop install the SEST old race tuner and spend a few hours on the dyno where they can ring up 4 hours or more easy at $125.00/hour here in Vancovuer Canada.
Will they take 4 hours top do it, I dont think so ( you noticed I said "I" ) because there are loads of bikes out there running the same or close to the same set-up as you and that info is readily availible and copied to your ecm.
My 02 Ultra with the Stg 2 SE 95'' spins to 6500 rpm, but I have only ahd it there once and no need to visit there again....

I would like just a few more hundred RPM's. It seems when I am really getting on the throttle and racing my friends I over rev too quick

Be aware that increasing your Rev Limiter doesn't necessarily mean there is more power to be had. Odds are at that rpm you'd be better off shiffing and getting back into the meat of the power curve for the motor. Unless you are running a setup that still has some pull at those higher rpms, you are really only making more noise, not more power.
