My 09 Tri Glide is the first H-D I have owned that is actually reading the correct speed as compared to my GPS. All the others have been 3-7 mph fast. Dealer said its within specs. Used to drive me nuts.
My 04 EGC is good up to 65 mph then it gets fast and the faster you go the worse it gets. At 80 mph on the speedo the GPS says about 72 mph soooo which one is correct ??? however up to 65mph they agree with each other so I'm guessing the speedo goes to pot above 65 ? ? ? ? ?
On my '08 Street Glide I've checked the speedometer with a stop watch and the mileage markers on the local highway. I checked it at 50 mph (showing on my speedometer), 60, 70 and 80 mph. The speedometer was always showing 3.5 mph faster than the speed I calculated.
I've also checked it against a radar gun at 40 mph (on my speedometer) and the radar gun said I was going 37 mph.
So, I've concluded that my speedometer is fast by 3.5 mph, which means I just set my speedometer to 5 mph above the speed limit and I know I'm only going 2 mph fast, which I figure is safe from tickets and not slow enough to hold up traffic (except for all of the people who are speeding).
