heat management ?
The heat management mode does not kick in due to outside air temperature. It kicks in when several conditions during the ride warrant the computer to go into that mode. For me, it happened coming downhill from Flagstaff to Phoenix. I was cooking 80mph plus, with a passenger. My passenger got sick after eating in Flag. So, I had to pull off the road a few times. All the while, had my engine running. When we finally back on the road, I tried to make up the time and maxed out the throttle. Then, I heard a click, and the engine started to lose power and surged quite heavily. The engine will not go above 2800 RPM. Since I had to get home, I nursed it back at 60mph. Sucked!!
What I was told, later, that the surging was due to the ECM intermittently shutting down the rear cylinder, and was trying to suck more air from the intake and pour-in more fuel to cool the engine. After a day of sitting, the ECM reset itself and my bike was normal again. No codes were registered in the ECM. Of course, these conditions were on the EFI engine. Not sure how carburetted bike does it.

I have had my o6 for a month now, already have over 1k, the temps here have been in the hundreds (yes you read that right 101 and above) I have never seen the heat management kick in. I know it is hot because of the ever present burning sensation on my right inner thigh. We are a mile high here, and as such the system seems to run slightly rich. I don't know if that has anything to do with it or not. In my opinion there is something wrong if the bike runs in the misfire mode at 80.
