Default Drying Wet Boots

Caught in a downpour today and thought I'd share an old "Wet Boot drying" technique I learned of in the Fire service. When you get home or to your destination, fill your boots with crumpled newspaper! ... Newspaper has great wicking property and your boots will be dry by morning. I've been doing this for over 30 years to all my Fire, Riding and Hiking boots.

Now for the first dumb question!!

Should you swap-out the newspaper every so often??

I have used the crumpled newspaper method a few times, and always change out the paper after a few hours. Don't know if it's a must, but it's always worked for me. Come morning, the boots are dry. One more thing: I try to put the boots where there's some airflow while they're drying. Outside in the breeze works best, unless it's still raining.

Thanks for the tip. I've managed to ride through some major monsoons here lately with the daily summer torrential downpours and at times have waited days for the boots to dry out.

Peet Boot Dryer. I use it everyday for work boots. Best thing I've found.

Something I just read last night that I had never thought about nor yet tried is when you apply leather dressing/preservative to your boots, also apply it to the insides if they are leather lined. This was not mentioned specifically concerning boots that had been soaked but just in the normal care of boots. Does anyone here do this?

Hey thanks nridge. I'll give it a go. It's kind of to the point (up here in the northeast) that I'm not used to riding in nice weather!
