A friend of mine owned a motorcycle shop, worked on H-Ds, etc. I asked him "with EFI engines, and assuming you don't carry a laptop with you on trips, just how much in the way of tearing down and repairing an engine can you do by the side of the road, anyway?"

He thought about it, and basically replied "not much - maybe a new spark plug and gapper, but you're better off with a AAA card to have it towed to a repair facility - because (a) you won't have the electronics with you to connect to it; and (b) you probably won't have spare parts".

One man's opinion, but it influenced how many tools I chose to carry.

I didn't want to sink the bucks into the Snap-On tools (in part because on my Custom the leather bags don't lock, and I've had other riders tell me guys have gone through their bags at rallys, etc., and ripped off items including tools...don't mind losing $60 dollars worth of tools, but losing $260 worth would bite...)

But the question was what would I realistically need (with an EFI engine)?

I bought one of the small H-D kits as a starter, then added Sears Craftsmen items to it. I use it on the bike in my own garage, but I've never had to use it by the side of the road (knock on wood).

Good luck with your decision.

Check out Cruz tools on ebay. Add a few items from your toolbox and your should be good. Inexpensive as well. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/CRUZ-...=p4506.c0.m245
