Default Horn Problems (Please Help)

Can anybody help me with whats wrong? When I push the horn button I hear a buzzing sound for the first 2 or 3 times I push it then viola next time I push the button the horn works fine. After is starts working its good unless I leave the horn alone for a while and try it again the same thing happens. I checked out all the wiring and everthing looks ok. WTF? Is it the horn? Something to do with the battery not charged while i traffic? Also happens at highway speed. Help please. Kinda dangerous not having a horn.

Check the ground first. It might have gotten water in it during a washing. You can spray inside of it with wd40.

I have had both happen, but when the ground was bad, it sounded like a dead bird. And it never recovered until I figured out what it was. When it got water in it it needed to dry out.

as mentioned: if stock.. water in horn BUT horn may be giving -up the ghost.
If out of warranty:
you may wish to replace with a friam highway blaster that fits in stock horn bell. your choice there is a high or low tone..You could save sales slip and try it out and if you do not like return..advance discount auto parts, pep boys, auto zone.

I'll check the ground and look for water. But if there was water then why would it work after a couple pushes of the button? Same with ground? Pretty consistant with the 2 to 3 pushes of the button and it works.

If the ground was bad why would it work after a few pushes? My experience with a bad ground was that it was weak all the time. Of course my motor mount bolt that holds the ground disappeared altogether.

Go to radio shack and buy one of their cans of tv tuner/contact spray.
Squirt it in and around your horn button (protect your bikes paint from spray just in case). Work the button in and out a few times and see if that helps.
Switches that don't get use often can develop corrosion on the contacts.
Wouldn't hurt to squirt the other switches while you are at it.

Did you play with the horn or the horn cover recently?

I had problems with my horn after putting a new cover on.

After messing with it for a long time and talking with some folks on the forum, I found out that the torq specs are pretty specfic on the horn for a reason.

If it's bolted too tightly the horn just buzzes, if it's not tight enough the horn sounds sick. It's a pretty touchy setting as well as annoying for anybody within the area......lots of honking going on.

Good luck!

Great user name btw!

It was the horn. Servicl Maunal says ohm meter should read between 45 and 66 between the two contacts. It was only 12 I got a new 132dbl from pep boys for $19.99 and installed it in 5 mins. Safe again Safe again. Thanks for your input to those who responded.
