Default Stuck Brake Light

Help, I got a stuck brake light...Here's what I have done:

Pulled the leads on the rear BL Switch with no results.
Took apart the controls and played with the front BL Switch, when doing so I can here the relay clicking under the seat.

What else could it be...could it still be the front BL Switch even thought the relay is getting a signal?

Thanks for the help...

Moe

Just had the same thing happen to me a couple months ago on my 07. Turned out to be a bad rear brake light switch located under the exhaust trailing the rear brake pedal. Since it was under waranty the dealer replaced it with no charge, took about 30 seconds to replace. Good Luck

Did you just change grips? When I did my grips there was some very specific instructions about using a spacer to prevent a problem with the brakelight switch on the front brake. Just thought I'd throw it out there.

Had a similar thing. Noticed the brake light was very bright and never turned off. Turned out to be a broken brake switch in the front hand lever brake assembly. Bought a switch, and still have it, but put some RTV as a temp fix. Still riding 7 months later with no problems & switch stored just incase.

Since you've messed with the assembly, you should have seen the switch with a "top" end that is depressed by the front hand brake lever. If the tip is missing (as mine was) then that's your culprit. I stuck a screwdriver tip in between there and was able to move the switch from dim to bright to verify. Be careful not to fudge anything else up if you try this.

Did the RTV idea to get me through an out of state ride & over beers in a bud's garage. Oh, and I did mess with my front controls 4 years prior that I'm sure led to the switch failure.

-Good Luck!

Sounds like a bad switch. See 'em all the time. What I would do is separate the right side switch housings and press the button on the front brake switch and see if it goes off. If it does, then you need to put the switch closer to the lever. If it doesn't I would swap out the rear brake switch.

+1...Do what he said. I replaced my grips and later had the same issue. Cruise wouldn't set since the brake light was on. I was lucky. When I opened the switch housing that little plunger was sitting **** eyed. I used a small screwdriver and straightened it up. Works great.

one of my friends with an 03 roadking had the same problem. his brake light would blink on and off while riding straight down the hiway, and he was complaining that his cruise was all screwed up. it was the front brake light switch, changed that out, and voila, his cruise is working again. and the taillight isn't blinking on at weird times for no reason.

The switch on the front brakes works like the light switch on your refrigerator--when you squeeze the lever it allows the button to pop out and the light goes on. If you remove your lever or clamps and don't hold the button in when you put it back together its easy to leave the button sticking out.
