A better challenge would be a day pick-nic ride to some relaxing location to unwind and get some road miles in. He will not be able to carry a ham and cheese sandwich and a coke under the seat of that rocket, let alone light a cig with the bike's own lighter.
Well lets just look at something here, NHRA Pro/Stock Bike Rules.
Harleys get 160 cu in (and use every bit of it), Suzuki pro/stock bikes are using a 1985 based 1150cc 2 valve (ancient technology) but are limited to 101 cu in, both are subject to the same weight rule until one is winning more, then NHRA will impose a weight penalty on the faster bike. The Suzuki will give the Harley fits even with a
-59 cu in handicap. A 600cc engine is only 36.6 cu in and we want to compare that to a 131 cu in ?. I enjoy watching harleys drag race at AHDRA events (for Harleys only) but it tends to chap me a bit when I watch Harleys competing with Metric at NHRA events and get a crap load of breaks like 160 cu in. Hell that should mean Honda Civics should be able to compete in NHRA pro/stocks just limit the 500 cu in v8's to 200 cu in and let the Honda have 500 cu in engines. Just my rant!....I'm done.
Looking over the dyno numers section here , Im sure some of the high horsepower baggers have drag raced a 600 Ninja or 2 from the stop light . Anyone dare to give out the results ? My 131ci Roadking is on the way from the shop and im dying to give a kid riding a Ninja fits (600cc.... anything in the liter class i use the racing Buell ) Jake
A Vtwin will beat a 600 off the line, but how far does "off the line" go?. I had a Suzuki SV650s that would beat a 600 from 0-45mph but then it was game over for me. Vtwins create a lot of torque and low end power. But that's it. Now as far as stop light to stop light a 600 would still win considering the average 600 0-60 is about 3-3.5sec and 0-100 is 6.5-7sec. It does make its peak power in higher RPMs, but it only takes a second or two to get into those high rpms. HD's 0-60 are around 4-6sec roughly, and 0-100 9-10sec depending on model, right?
As for the XB12 someone mentioned, yea, a 1200cc vtwin "sportbike" with a rotax engine will kill a 600 sportbike and still beat literbikes as well. but that's a HD sportbike, not HD cruiser.
It's 2 completely seperate types of bikes made for completely seperate styles of riding. take a 6hr road trip and I'm sure the HD rider will feel much better than the sport bike rider . I don't think a HD cruiser can in any way, race & beat a 600 sportbike. regardless of 131ci or not. just my .02..
its kinda funny that i opened this post. because on the 4th i beat a 1000RR.
WAIT LET ME EXPLAIN, i was at the light at the intersection of rt58 and 27
when the 1000RR pulled up beside me, we gave each other the nod's he said
nice looking HD. thanks, i said how fast is that. his reply was to hold the throttle
ON THE rev limiter i wind my RG up to 3k. light turns green let the clutch fly and im off bang 2nd and here comes the RR rear tire blazing smoke almost side ways. bang 3rd and dam am i catching him holy $h!h i am 4th and now im an 90 + and he's behind me. i back of now to slow her down and he's no longer there. im thinking he lost it, i whoa her up and and make a u-turn and sure enough he's on the side of the road. bike wont go after a quick look over we find the rear sprocket with no teeth on it. we had a good laugh and i hung out with him till his tow showed up about an hour later.
SO under the right circumstances you can beat a rice rocket.
Ive gone from crotch rockets to a now custom 06 night train. I dont care what kind of power your HD has. Its never going to smoke a crotch rocket. They are racing bikes...... not cruisers. They have 4 cylinders that rev to almost 17k. and weight nothing compared to a 700+ lb Harley. Our Harleys might go to 6k at max and have more horses but its all torque. Sorry but dont beat the crap out of your harley just to race a rice burner. Im not hating on with bike because Ive had both.

I have 10 bikes all 100cc and Up the Roadking has Jims 131ci engine and OFF the line is about 1/8th mile . Then the 600cc sportbike gets its lgs under it and passes the roadking by .
its the same as My Fiebolt .. it has 1420ss 643 cams 12.5 compression, lightend pistons, crank ect ect ect have 10k in engine alone AND special forced air oil cooler to keep temps at 150-175 degrees oil temps at ALL times .
This is experiment to see if a Harley could be competitive with jap/european high tech engines when money is no object / could it be competitive period .
Conclusion being the big bore harley engine gets its power at a low rpm 140RWHP 115lbs torque yes The Firebolt walks away from high tech japanese bikes even the new BMW S1000, on short straits . But on long straits= 1/2mile &over my Ducati 1198 will pass the firebolt . The firebolt handles better so it makes it up in tight sections so it al depends on track layout at that point ..
lets face it i own harleys ducatis triumph and japanese bikes so im not biased in any way , but harleys whgere NEVER meant for performance and although you can get 100k with good maintenance the japanese and europeans make a better designed engine that will go 200k with the same maintinanvce .
