Oil pan removal
#12
Well, I got it out tonight, rather easily. I did remove the swing arm pivot. Of course to do that, I also had to remove the exhaust. It wasn't a big deal, just going to add some more time to the installation.
Part of the problem may have been that the rubber bushings were definitely worn out and sagging. I was expecting to replace those on the bike since it does have 82,000 miles on the clock. I probably should replace the front mount as well.
It would have been much easier to suspend the bike, like the manual called for, but my hoist is 300 miles away in the race shop.
Now it's time to get everything cleaned up and get ready to put it back together. I was happy to see how clean the inside of the pan was. I hope to get everything done tomorrow.

Oil Pan Removal
I guess I'm my own worst enemy. Tried changing the oil (not the first time) on my 2000 Road King. Half way through, with the oil sump empty, I accidently dropped a small piece of rubber tubing down the dip stick opening. After trying for a day with flexible grabber, flash light, and sundry other tools, I thought about
removing the oil/tranny piece myself. Then I read this bulletin board, got my wifey to help push it up on the trailer and dragged it to the local Harley shop.
They still have it, but it'll be over $100 to do the work to remove the tubing.
Guess that's an expensive lesson learned. Next time, maybe I'll just take it to the shop in the first place. I'm getting to old for this frustration. To you all who are doing it yourself, you have my respect and best wishes. Go for it!
