Default oilpan removal FLHTCU Q

The threads in the the drain finally gave up the ghost. Can the oil pan be removed without removing engine/trans? No room to helicoil/timesert it in place.

My service manual says that it can be removed but the front of the engine may need jacking up to clear the cross member. Try a new drain plug before you remove the oil pan.

Slid mine out the back without removing anything but it was tight, don't forget to recheck your trans oil after you get it back on.

Thanks all. Came right out the front without jacking the engine. Back together now and nearly ready to ride.

Mine did the same thing, only it was the tranny drain plug. Actually I think it was already bad when I got it cause it showed signs of teflon on the drain plug. So 2 fluid changes back when I did my service,my local indy sold me an oversize plug and tap.I was a little nervous about ruining the whole damn thing so I used teflon again and never had a leak.I check it religously.Still not sure what I'll do this week when I service everything.

If you use oversized plug and it fails, you will not be able to Helicoil it as the hole will be too big. FYI.
