Default 2009 RoadGlide- Electrical Issue

So I dropped off my bike to get looked at since it appears to be having an electrical problem after the bike has been riden for 1-2 hours. It started with the kill switch not working and then it went into limp mode. Since the dealer informed me that it is due to my aftermarket handlebars that have internal wiring, even though I am only using the stock wiring harness and no extensions, I decide I would ask everyone on hear if anyone else has had a similar issue. I know it is not due to the handlebars and I am leaving to go pick it up now and also get the codes that it is pulling.

Curious to hear,

Jason

While it's probably not the bars themselves, are you absolutely positive the wiring inside the bars is not compromised somewhere? Electrical problems act very weird.

depending on how the wires were pulled through the bars, it is possible a wire or connection was damaged. The throttle side of the bars are a real pain to get everything into the bars (sensor wires, cruise, turn signals, etc.). It gets to be a large bundle, especially if the throttle sensor was not changed to the extended version without the green plug that is inside the bars.

I am positive it is not in the bars, especially after I reviewed the technician report and the Trouble Codes. I called another dealer that I do business with, I don't work with the dealer I took the bike too, and after they looked up the codes, it is due to an ECM overheating. This dealer spent less than 30 minutes on diagnostics so they couldn't even replicate the issue. The tech did state that there wasn't a short in the wiring of the handlebars also!

Seems like a simple fix so I will be taking it to another dealer to get the work done.

replacing the ECM would be a lot easier and quicker than redoing the handlebar wiring. Hopefully that will solve your problem.

It sure is. I am heading up to my selling dealer on Saturday so they can look at it. They said they would take an ECM out of a bike in inventory if needed to get me back on the road ASAP. Maverick Motorsports in Wyoming is an awesome dealership! Too bad they are two hours away from me though...
