Hey all, I'm getting ready to tear into my RK, I would like your input/opinion on what cams you have or would use, bike is an '06 Roadking, carb, 95" build w/flat top pistons, Ness big sucker, Fulsac mod. slipon mufflers, mostly 2 up touring, I'm not looking for a hotrod to peg the dyno, just low-end/mid range passing power, but not too much as to avoid changing the cheap crank bearings. this bike will likely never see 5k rpm... just 70-80 mph all day long.
Thanks for your help,
Kevin.
I'm after the same sort of ride you describe kansas & TOMCENTRAL on this forum was instrumental in helping me choose my cam. Heck of a nice fella w/loads of experience w/these builds, he even gave me contacts on where to get everything. I have a cam gear set-up w/Andrews 26G's on the way (was looking for it today [:@]). As soon as I get the kit & some SE adj pushrods in hand I'll set up a slot w/the local shop. It's busy season for the shop, but I hope to get em put in & dyno-tweeked in a week or so. I'll know more then.
Good luck & I hope you get exactly the ride you're looking for. ...actually I hope we both do.
I have 37G's (in Texas) w/9.7:1 CR w/o any detination issues.... Gave me 100/100 & it comes on early ~ over 90ft/lbs @ 2200, 95ft/lbs @ 2500 & stays up all the way to 5700. Sure rides good too!
The 26's are AWESOME cams too. I have used them and 55's, but the 55's require more compression than I care for & as a result are tuff on starters. YES, I had compression releases too....
Properly tuned, 37's are fine. Andrews will tell you not to go over 9.5:1, but BigBoyz convinced me that 9.7:1 was still OK. They were right!
Winter project but im going with a kit with 510 cams. I here it's not to radical for a bagger.
510's are good in baggers too. They make very similar power to the Andrews 37's, they just "come on" a little later. Buttman has them in his RG and it really runs/rides nice.
Also, like the 37's.... do not exceed 9.7:1 compression ratio!
