Riding the Poconos
Just spent the better part of this last week in the Poconos mountains. I had to get re certified on some equipment I work on. Program took place at the factory in Freeland.
I wish I had my SG with me, what get roads. Reminds me of some of the roads in the lower Smokies. Had a Focus rental. Every time I was driving I wish I had the SG. Definitely an area going in my bucket list!!

That area isn't bad, but get any further east & the Poconos is a toilet! (In my opinion.) It's all bedroom New York City, idiot drivers who all want to be the 1st one to get to wherever it is that they're going, etc. Next time, for some great riding, go about 100 miles north & west of that Hazleton area. The NW 1/4 of PA is the best! I live here & never get tired of riding it. Lots of stuff to stop & see also.
The area you were in does have some nice riding. Carbon county through Hickory Run state park. Sundays in Jim Thorpe is one large Harley rally. Everything north and west of Freeland is open country with small towns along the way.
Geezer is right that when you start moving towards Strausburgh or Wilkes-Barre the traffic and out of state drivers increases.
You probably stayed near Hazelton. Lot of good bikers and two indy shops.
