Default Iron Butt Ride - Done!

I did it on Saturday. I left Ames, Iowa at 3 am, took all interstates through Des Moines-IA, Davenport-IA, Peoria-IL, Springfield-IL, St. Louis-MO, Kansas City-MO, Omaha-NE, Des Moines-IA, and back to Ames. I ended up at 1,071 miles. It took me 16.5 hours. I had a 45 minute delay in St. Louis due to road construction.

It was a Blast, even though everyone thought I was crazy. Well only the people that don't ride motorcycles thought I was crazy. I had a cooler with bottled water and granola bars in my saddle bag. I only stopped for gas and bathroom breaks. I recommend it to anyone. I am sending in all the documentation and getting the certificate for my wall. I still get excited telling people about my accomplishment.

Congrats! At least you had 'cooler' weather than when I did mine in 2005 (Dallas to Van Horn TX and back...way too hot!)

Now you'll start looking at 'other' IBA rides...LOL

Congrats. Even most motorcyclist will give you crap about this ride. Many say it is irresponsible and dangerous.

As one that has done several to date and have a 1500 mile in 24 hrs planned... i can say welcome to the fraternity.

It is not for everyone but it is for some. You are now a 1% as less than one percent of motorcyclist even attempt this type of ride.

See you are wearing a FF as well. Good move.

To each his own.

Congratulations on the SS... I'm readying myself for my attempt later this year (Florida's just too hot right now), and love to see stories like this on the forum.

Did mine a few months back. Took me a little longer though. Left at 4 am and met the same gas station attendant the next day at 1 am. Now she thought we were crazy!

"You's been on dat bike all dis time? Shoot child, you's crazy!!!!"

It was A LOT of fun. I'd do it again.

Sundowner + a sheep skin Gel pad thing = awesome.

Congrats.

It was a blast. I had to learn how to adjust my clutch in Springfield IL. I never had to do it on my metric bikes. But I had the tools and learned how to make it too tight and too lose. If I ever see another granola bar again I am going to puke. Granola bars and water were all I ate and drank all day long. I look forward to trying another one some day.

I do not think it was something that "unsafe". The 1000 miles in 24 hours is very do-able. Just make sure you leave early enough in the morning and if you get tired, pull over and take a quick break. And keep to interstates.

Great 65 mph average!!!!

I did the 1000 mile in 18 hours about 15 years ago....it was great!!!!!
When the wife and I go for a 500 mile ride, I tell her that every minute that she can save me
at a gas stop, I will give back to her when we stop for lunch.
What a trooper!!!!!
