Honestly, the butt did not get sore at all. The only area I felt it in was my shoulders, and I think some different bars would make a difference. I am 6'0" and I feel like I am reaching for the bars. Cruise control is a must for this long of a ride, to help keep a steady pace, and to give your arms a rest.

The local BWM club here in Denver organizes one every year (http://www.coloradobeemers.org/content/view/41/44/) and most of it is on beautiful mountain highways. I wanted to do it this year, but we were out of town. Gonna try to get some of mt fellow HOG Chapter members to "represent" HD with me on the ride next year. Heck, maybe I can post in the SW Forum and rally some of the other local HDForum riders to join in too.

I know it will be a challenge, but like another poster said, not many can say they've done it. I've done ~600 miles riding 2-up before on a v-rod, so I think with some careful planning and prep work, I should be able to pull it off.

Congrats on your ride. We're fortunate to have many good interstates and reliable Harleys to do these on, because back in the day when a Harley had to have a quart of oil, two spark plugs, and a good tool kit any time it left the garage, 1,000 mi. in 24 hours would have been a different ride altogether.

My first IBA certified was similar to your ride; it was purely for certification. Since then, the certification has been a good way to cut three day trip times to Sturgis from Atlanta down to two days: Atlanta to Sioux City, IA is 1,100 or so IIRC. And running 500-600 mi. in a day on interstates is no big deal when time doesn't permit a more leisurely pace.
