I need some help, when my bike is cold the oil level is right where it should be, at the bottom of the add oil hot indicator Once the bike is hot after a ride I can check it again and the oil is only about ˝ up on the add oil line. Do I go by the cold level or the hot level?? Im thinking hot and I should add a ˝ qt. I have the stock oil level stick, Thanks for the help.
If it is between the add and full lines when HOT, then leave it
alone. If you get it up to the top of the full mark when HOT
then you run the risk of kicking oil out of the breather. I always
end up using 3.5 qt. after change and warming up to check for
the correct amount.
It's just fine - I screwed up my last oil change and put a bit too much in. Now I get to clean the chrome under the air cleaner of the oil blowing out. And, I knew better.
Crap, I just changed my oil for the first time (5000) on my 2008 RG and I filled to the top fill line. It was just a little over 3 1/2 quarts. I rode it down the street afterwards but not very far and then put her back up. So I guess I over filled it but may not got it hot enough to blow out of the air cleaner.
What will be the best way to remove some oil to get the cold level down?
Turkey baster or some kind of surenge with a tube on the end to suck some out?
Glad I saw this post and should have read the service manual better but I just took it for granted.
