Default Extended Service Plan question

Bike (2007 FLHX) wouldn't start last Friday.
Turned over, but wouldn't fire.

Took it to the dealer on Saturday.
Service writer told me the wire to the ECM had a short in it.
Told me there were two options.
They could repair the wire going to the ECM or replace the main wire harness.

I showed him my ESP card, and said he would call to obtain authorization for one or the other.
I left the bike and called back this morning.
He said it was good to go, but he had to call the esp to get the authorization.
I called back and he said they (esp) authorized the fix to bypass the main harness with a new wire to the ecm, but denied replacing the new harness.

I asked him to document this in the final work order, and he wrote...

"called esp and got authorization to repair wire going to the exm. no other authorization was given to repair wire harness"

I have some questions here, any thoughts?

1). Would there be a claim number associate with the authorization?
There isn't one on the work order, and I will call the number on the contract to be sure.
Shouldn't that be noted in the work order billing sheet?
2). Would fixing the wire by bypassing the main harness undermine the warranty going forward?
3). I would like a reason in writing why the claim for a new harness is denied, would I be out of line asking for that?
4). Do I have any other options at this point.

I am a little apprehensive that they implemented this fix before he called me with the decision from the esp. I am also concerned that the bypass will undermine the rest of my warranty. It is a five year warranty, and the bike is two years and one month into it.

Now, I don't want more than I have coming, but if in fact the only fix coming under the terms of the contract is to bypass the wire to the ecm, I would like it in writing to avoid any confusion going forward.

Thanks in advance for your help guys.

Dave

P.S. The bike ran ok after this fix and I took it home.
But when I wanted to document what happened, I realized there is no claim number, and no other record of the request for the wire harness.

Cool

your reciept should say warrenty work. and it does nothing for the rest of your warrenty. If it happens again they will fix it again. Plus it all depends on how they wrote it up.

I'd be more concerned with the quality of the "repair"...I really wouldn't want it to "happen again", so in that case I'd want the cable replaced with new. JMO...B.

My suspicion is that ESP paid them for a new harness, and they installed $.10 worth of jumper wire and connectors...

= more $$$ for them.

Smells funny, I would want it fixed right the first time, good luck.
