I have decided to wait till Winter to do my first mods to the bike. This way I can take my time, get familiar with it and do it right the first time! Here are the mods I want to do first;
-Dresser duals (V&H more than likely)
-Wheel swap (replace lace with factory cast)
I have a few questions to ask though so I can make sure I have all the parts on hand an am ready to go.
1) When doing the exhaust, will I need to get some sort of power commander? If so, which one do I go with?
2) Then, what all do I need to know before swaping from lace to cast wheels? I don't have ABS, so will I need to take that into consideration? Or is a wheel a wheel as long as it comes off a RKC or SG?
3) Also, when looking for factory cast wheels, what do I need to be aware of?
4) When I do the wheel swap, I want to go with new tires. I like the new style tires (lower profile). Any brand to stay away from? Then, what is the widest back tire that can be run on a RKC? I will also be replacing brake shoes. Any certian kind to go with?

sounds like you got a pretty good plan. there is no need to tear your bike down when it's prime riding season. when it's crappy in the winter is a much wiser choice. just study, read as much as you can find about the modifications you want to make, and don't buy into all the latest hype. for tires, the dunlop elite 3's are about the best thing going nowadays. cheap at dennis kirk too, as well as a few other places. for exhaust, had you considered slip on mufflers? you will not lose torque that way, as you would lose some low end torque with true duals. you would be well off to find some wheels from a similar year, up until 07, cause after that they went to the ids. = isolated drive system. you might wanna try to find some of the 9 spoke wheels from a similar year roadking standard. it's what the 9 spoke chrome harley wheels are made from by shearing off the nubs on a lathe, polishing them and chroming them. great wheels, i think. i put the chrome ones on my harley, and they absolutely rock. and are of the stock size rather than the mega bux $1500 or higher aftermarket ones. you should be okay with the exhaust concerning the question of the fuel modifier, or tuner. you may want to do a stage one download though, if it revs to 6200 then it already has the download, as factory they rev to 5500. now i don't know if that's true on the 05's but i know the newer ones work that way, have fun, now get out there and enjoy it the way it is. you will own it a long time, hopefully, so there is plenty of time to study and make the right choices. whatever you do, ride safe.
Already have the Python slip ons. As for the other stuff, thanks for the info. I do need to learn about this power commander or what ever that cumputer thing is!
