Default 95" vs 98"

Seems to be a lot more people on here askng about 95" kits vs 98" kits. I'm a total newb with regards to bike motors. I'd like to upgrade my SG over the winter and trying to decide which way to go. What are the pros/cons of one over the other? I was standing in line making small talk to the guy in front of me and starting talking about this 98" kit that HDWrench sells and he starting asking all sorts of questions that I wasn't able to answer about wall thickness and it must be stroked and all. I do most of my riding single, but going 2 up for a 400 mile ride is not out of the question either. I don't spend much time over 3k and prefer to have torque on hand and ready at will and not have to be spinning 3500 and wait for power to build. I've already got a SERT/ac/SE Slip ons and looking for something that will go with what I have already. I know 100/100 is the magical number and a lot of ways to get there so why is a 95" better or not than a 98" kit?

I did the 98" from hdwrench and I'm happy with it. I got 95.7 HP and 107 tq. You may want to contact him, he's pretty knowledgeable and will answer your questions about the differences etc. I did the work myself and like I said, I'm happy with the results.
My bike is an '01 Road King Classic with V&H Classic slip-ons, CE air cleaner, and a PCIIIusb.

There are so many options that it is pretty much a personal preference. You will get lots of suggestions. I like the stock harley look so I used all Harley parts to get 95ci. I am sure some kits work better than others. I have a friend who is a mechanic and I told him what I wanted and he gave me a part list to get there.

I did speak with Steve probably back in November when my bike was on order. He was very helpful and it sounds like his kit is a great deal. Did you do the heads as well? What kind of riding do you do, where's your power at etc..

I got a better question..........."Why not the 100" from S&S?"
You keep the stock stroke, its all in the bore=torque monster

I did the heads, had the throttle body bored and put the 37g gear drive cams in. I do all types of riding. Solo, 300 miles+, two up, and just cruise around. The power is in a pretty wide range. I get good torque between 2500 and 4500 rpm. I like that the compression ratio is only 9.7:1. It's a personal thing, keeping the ratio below 10:1 with stock rods etc.

Sounds nice. This is going to be my winter project. Visually the bike is how I want it. Now it'll be time for power Did you have Steve do the heads or did you do them yourself? I already run 93 octane in the bike so I don't mind going with a slightly higher compression, like you would like to stay about where you are.

It was my '05 - '06 winter project. I had Steve do the heads, I was just a parts changer. I learned a lot about the bike doing it myself. Have fun!!
