Default Classic or Ultra?

I'm renting either a RK or Ultra for a trip with my wife through Montana in July(my fxr stays home alone). Other than the tour pack and rack on top and cushy passenger seat, is there much if any handling differences riding two up between them?

I would go with the Ultra, since you'll have the tour-pak and the tunes (which your wife would appreciate.) RK is nice, but you'll need to bring your own T-bag, plus I'm not sure if the dealer will provide a backrest for your wife. Handling wise, the Ultra will handle well, as it was designed for touring.

Renting an Ultra may mean you might be buying an Ultra.

Everyone I know that rented an Ultra bought one, or wants to buy one as soon as they quit paying their ex-wives child support.

The difference I noticed between the two models is that you ride "on top of" the bike on an RK, and on an Electra Glide you ride "down in" the bike. Different seating placement and posture.

I've ridden both and don't care for the RK seating position.

I took the safey course in October and got my MC license in November (44 years old)
I then rented a RK in December, and an EG in January.
First of February bought my first Harley - Ultra.
Really nice/fun ride.
Like you've seen above - try it and you'll buy it!

I rented three Harleys in the following order: Dyna SuperGlide, Softail Heritage Classic, Electra Glide Ultra Classic.

All three rides were two-up with my wife. I decided on the E-Glide Classic. There is nothing more comfortable for two up riding than an Electra Glide. Any of them would be a good choice. The only reason I did not get the Ultra is because I just happen to think the Classic looks better. Just as comfy, but without all the bells and whistles. However, if you decide on the Ultra you simply cannot go wrong.
