Thanks fathertime...hopefully that will get me pointed in the right direction.
When we poured the garages we did them at a small slope so water would run out. Not a lot but there is a uphill and a downhill...the lighting isn't all that great either. In my infinite wisdom I figured too, that heck, if I make a mess taking off the filter that I wouldn't worry too much about it (I made a tinfoil chute and it wasn't bad at all). The spot was pretty darn level as it is where we always end up working on tractors and vehicles. But....the gravel sure worked a number on the paint.....I'm sure some of the scratches were made worse as I almost busted a nut trying to get it back up. LOL.....I've replayed that split second in my mind about a million times since yesterday. Not that it has helped much! ;-) Yeah, I went an ran a tank of gas through it yesterday after the fact...the miles did do wonders for calming me down!!
I may be wrong, but if you have full coverage insurance, comprehensive should cover that. I know my State Farm comp would cover the repairs on mine if that happened. Since it would be a comp claim, they couldn't even raise my premiums.
That sucks, sorry to hear it. Don't feel bad though, I'd had my Ultra about 2 weeks. I was installing a new chrome trim piece on the bat wing. Slipped with the damn toax screw driver and put an inch and a half scratch in the clear coat in the middle of the front fairing. I just left mine there as a reminder. Take a few minutes, pull my head out and think.
Sorry to hear about the drop. How many times have I done something to save a few $$, and ended up spending twice as much to fix what I screwed up? I can't even count it. After some time, you'll actually look back on this and smile.... And say to yourself, "I should have known better".... and guess what, next time YOU WILL! I feel your pain.
Sucks to have the gravel tat!!
Good luck with the local paint shop. Hope the pearl paint has gotten more reasonably priced. I wanted some for the 2001 RG and only recall that my painter balked at how much it would have been for a quart.
