How's this working out for you? I've been thinking about getting one of these too. I have a Zumo 550 and would like to be able to use the iPod when I'm in town. The iPod is a lot easier to stick it in your pocket than it is to lock up the Zumo when running errands, going to work, etc.
Can you actually use the iPod controls through the plastic window and does it stay on the tank well?
Works great for me...and yes it definitely sticks to the tank...never seen it move so much as a quarter inch. You can operate the controls through the window...I am using an ipod touch...no problems at all.
OK, what about an off the wall suggestion. I am really excited about the applications and uses of an IPhone on a bike - loads of great things you can do.
Now TomTom and all the others are releasing their app for the Iphone, so forget the Zumo, buy an IPhone and use that as a SatNav
Currently I have a Sirius radio hooked to my Aux input on my Ultra Classic. I would also like to have a Zumo 550 hooked up at the same time.
I would like the music from the Sirius to play until the Zumo talks. At that time I want it to cut the Sirius/Ipod audio and play the Zumo 550 audio. When the Zumo quits talking I want it to go back to playing the Sirius/Ipod audio. This sounds like it's what everyone would like.
Being a Ham Operator I started thinking on how to accomplish this and it's really not that hard. I drew up a diagram and ran it past a couple of friends and they said it should work. I ordered the parts today and will give it a try and let everyone know if it works.
For you electronic guys, I have ordered a small VOX kit. It has a op amp that will not load the audio from the Zumo down. The relay in the VOX will have the NC position playing the Sirius/Ipod audio into the AUX input of the Harley radio. When the Zumo talks it will trigger the VOX circuit and key the relay routing the Zumo audio to the Harley AUX input thus killing the audio from the Sirius/Ipod. The VOX kit I ordered was less than $10. It 1.5 inches by 1.3 inches so it could be put in a real small box and mounted/zip tied to the handlebars. It would have a cable to go to the Harley Aux input and two input jacks, one for the Zumo and the other for the Sirius/Ipod input.
When I say Sirius/Ipod I really mean any audio source that works plugged into the Aux input of the radio.
So, what do you guys think? Is this kind of what everybody is looking for? I should know in a couple of weeks if it works.
I saw another thread where someone said you can simply use a "Y" adapter and plug both the Zumo audio and the IPOD audio in at the same time. Has anyone tried this?

Just what I needed to know, thanks. I have one on hold at one of the local dealers, going to pick it up tomorrow. These are getting hard to find. On backorder until October at two of the other dealers in my area.

Definitely let me know if it works out if you would (looks like it will from what you're saying).
I could see mounting the box on the back of the inner fairing and running aux cables from the Zumo and the iPod back into the fairing through the clutch cable hole or similar and the box actually being out of site completely.
I have my Zumo wiring (fairing mount) ran like that now and it comes back out of the fairing on the side the aux connector is on on the radio. Using a a black audio cable with a 90 degree connector you hardly notice it being plugged into the face of the radio.
keep us posted I'm very interested it beats converting all of my Itunes to mp3 and loading up my GPS
I was looking around some and found a device by Kennedy that already does what we need. It takes 2 inputs and passes them to the aux of your radio. One of the inputs is the priority input that you would hook your GPS to and the other your ipod/satellite to. When the GPS talks it kills the ipod audio. Switches back to the ipod 2 seconds after the GPS quits talking.
It doesn't have to be a GPS. It can be anything. For example you can have a satellite radio hooked to the secondary radio. Then hook an ipod up to the primary input. When the ipod is off the satellite radio would play. When you play the ipod it mutes the satellite and plays the ipod.
The unit is only $95. Where they get you is the cables. If you buy the "pig tail" cables you get out for $175. If you want plug and play it can cost as much as $300. You can just buy the box at $95 and make your own cables.
