Ok, I installed an amp to my Ultra, I have one problem that is bugging the hell out of me.
I start my bike, radio comes on sounds is coming out of speakers, after riding for about 10 mins, no sound at all, radio is still powered, checked the amp the light is green yet nothing coming out.
Turn off the radio wait about 5 mins, turn it on, sound comes right out... or if I stop and shut the bike off, and then start it back up sound comes from speakers.
Does anyone know the problem... Yes I should have gone with Firecap but I got this AMP before I knew about him, and now my funds are limited since I had to bury my brother, so I used what I had...(so please no smart or funny remarks)
It could be the amp OR it could very well be the HK unit. You will have to do some basic trouble shooting to find out which one it is.
I would take the amp out of the equation simply by reconnecting the speakers directly to the stereo. If your problem continues, then it is the stereo head unit.
If the problem does not continue then it is the amp or your installation of the amp.
You did not mention the mileage on the bike nor the brand of amp installed. The HK units are notorious for going out if you use them. This forum is loaded with posts of riders new HK units going out. Mine started acting up within weeks of ownership.
I hope this helps.

My bet is the amp is overheating.
My home stereo will do it if i run it at high volumes for a while
with the amp cranked to max power....shut it offff....wait 3 minutes....and its fine. I just have to turn it all down a bit.
Now "why" it does it I couldnt say....wire gage....4 speakers ona 2 channel amp...wrong impedance of speakers for the amp....
These guys are all "on the money"...sounds like an overheating problem and like Francois said take the amp out of the equation by hooking spkrs directly to HU and trying it that way. Good luck...B
Interesting, I had the exact problem with my HK radio after installing the Hog Tunes speaker pod(maybe not related). The volume would go out and everything else was on. Shut the radio off and it worked. Finally did go out, sent to HD for repairs. Had the loaner in for about 3 weeks and 1800 miles and it just went out. According to Iron Cross (or something like that) HK radio specialist, they say the side heat sink comes loose. You pay them $250.00 plus shipping and your done. I'm getting my old radio back from HD and giving them their loaner back. If it goes out again, I'll probably give Tony a chance, then it's going to be aftermarket. I'd do it now, but I'd have to get another XM model. Plus the hand control model. Could not live without that !!!
PS I will check speaker ohms for shorts prior to reinstall
