Default First ride after a few mods this weekend...

Hey everyone,

Yesterday we ran up to Paducah, Ky and back for lunch (~500 miles) to stretch the leg on the bike to make sure everything was ready to go. Last week we put on a chrome front end, front end lowering kit(due to 21" front wheel), oil cooler, changed monster ovals for rhineharts, and installed a set of Andrews 54H gear driven cams. A local Indy let me help with the install so I could learn a little about how these bikes work and how they go together. It was a very good learning experience for me.

Yesterday we rode mostly two lane highways up to Paducah and back. The 54's woke the mid range up quite a bit and actually makes the bike a "little" fun to ride. The lowering kit returned the handling to stock which was very important to me after installing the wheel.

I've sent off a set of heads/jugs to get worked on and I'm hoping to have them back in a couple of weeks. We're gonna do a 103" upgrade to it and then all I have left is the dyno. I must say I was surprised just how much torque the cams alone added to a stock motor with a stage 1 kit.

Here are a couple of pics:
We had to tear kinda deep into the front end to do the lowering kit/chrome front end

Can you say bye bye warranty.

Cam plate removed and stock cams removed:

This is the cams being buttoned up before we put the gears on the ends of the cams.

I'd like to do the engine mod to mine, but will wait for the warranty to run out first. But congratulations. What did the Indy charge you for the engine mods?

Nice...sooner or later I want to upgrade the get up and go but will wait for the warranty to run out too! How tough was it to put on the chrome lower forks? Looks easy...but easy is a 4-letter word to me when it comes to working on the bike!

Late,

well the front end wasn't too bad. He had a special socket made by a company named "Jims" that made it so we didn't have to remove the entire fairing to remove the fork tubes. The chrome front end wasn't bad at all but changing those lowering springs were a little bit of a chore.

He charged me about $200 labor to install the cams(and I helped quite a bit with removing all the exhaust etc). He'll probably charge me $300 or so to do the top end when it is ready.

The main reason I went ahead and did it was because I have a bushtec trailer and the bike didn't like pulling it with only a stage 1 kit. If I were just riding it without a trailer then I would have waited also but I have a few trips this fall planned with the trailer and I am going back to Sturgis next year and will be carrying the trailer as well.

I'll get some this weekend while on our trip. This will be the first road trip for my son. He is 9 years old and can't wait to go.

Now that's a job well done. Congrats. I'd love to see that Bushtec hooked up with the 21" front wheel and chromed lowers.
