Street glide has been lowered, has a shaved front fender, different gauges, winscreen, wheels, color coordinated bag latches, and some other little bits.
Now, being new to Harley, I am kind of suprised to see that the Street Glide and the EGC are the exact same price, but that the EGC also includes a top case, rear crash bars, passenger floor boards and what seems to be a more comfortable seat (at least for the passenger).
Is it just me or given the fact that many Street Glide buyers will change the shocks and upgrade the seat for more clearance and comfort, I should buy the EGC and simply add the kit to easily dismount the top case and get the best of both world?
I mean, besides the look of the SG being a little more aggressive and given the extra stuff that comes on the EGC, is there anything else that would justify paying more for the SG, which ''seems'' to offer less?
: )
This is a good idea if you think you are going to want the tourpak at times....You can change the gauges and paint the dash, clean up the lights on the front, it is endless to what you can and will do to the bike. The EGC seat is more comfortable that the SG seat, but either is nice if you add the rider backrest.
I was looking at the Street Glide and the Ultra, went with the EGC bought mine end of year with the Big discount also and put the money towards parts. If you are not planning on trading any time soon, I would get the 09 of whichever model you decide is best for you.
I think I would go for the 09 because of the 2 in to 1 exhaust. I think a bagger looks funny with only one exhaust pipe. If you like two pipes you have to change out every thing from the headers back. Plus if you like the look of a bigger tire you can take the 2500 and get a 21" tire. Just my opinion though. Get what you want.
I'd go for the 2009 especially if you cn save some $.
Pros:
Real tail light.
Straight cut fifth gear (Mine is almost silent).
Dual mufflers.
No catalytic converter.
Cons:
17" front tire.
As far as a Street Glide versus an EGC that's a personal choice. Harley Davidson is a marketing genius. They strip all the little chrome do-dads, tour pack, passenger floorboards, add a crappy seat and shorter windscreen give it a new name and charge the same price as an EGC. Pure marketing genius!
By the way I fell for the HD BS and bought a Street Glide and couldn't be happier.
