I don't necessarily equate best with loud. Back when I was testing riding bikes, the shop by me had an 08 SG w/103 with pipes I could never have. My ears rang the whole time. It had that high pitched whine. (I wish I knew what pipe that was. I recall them telling me it was adjustable.)
I'm just wondering what out there has made people think "ahh, now that sounds gooood." For instance, I've enjoyed listening to the Monster Ovals, with their deep purr. (The cans are just a little too big (visually) for my taste.)
Thanks--a lot of good ideas. I'm really starting to rethink the true dual thing. Ideally I wanted to stick to slip-ons due to cost and that HD has done a good job with the header pipe for 2009. I guess that's the real issue making it a tough choice for me--do I want to sacrifice power for sound? My other bike's got 135hp on tap, so the Road King feels relatively slow anyway, so what's a little more difference. (The 135hp makes no sound though.)
Fishtails look great on the King! I'm thinking the Samson straight pipe will be too loud and I can't find any sound clips of the Samson Longtails (if they had removable baffles, I'd probably take a gamble). Now, the VH big shots can be fitted with fishtails. Hmm...
For what it is worth I emailed Samson today to inquire about the 33" drag pipe fishtail slip-ons. They said it will accept their baffle from the front. They recommended the 1.75" baffle to quiet them down a bit without impeding flow.
So give that a shot and tell me what you think. That way you can be the guinea pig and if they're good I'll buy them too
I like the V&H staggered short shots, but everyone has them. That's why I went with my Rush 2.0's. I love the way mine sound, but I also like the way the V&H sound/look.
the big shots are loud as he'll when you are into the hammer but not obnoxious at cruising speed they also make quite baffels that drop about 2 decibels I really like them but they are loud

Ooh, this sounds promising. Right now I'm leaning towards big shots and eventually adding the tails, but all in, that's about double the Samson plus baffles.
Of course, if you'd like to go first and let us all know how it worked out, please do. I wouldn't want to steal your thunder. (Bad pun intended.)
