Default After market stereo question..

My factory stereo is on the fritz, plays for a while then no sound, turn it off turn it on sound, a few mins later no sound. Therefore, I am going to buy a after market stereo..

Question: Has any recently purchased a stereo, if so what brand and model. How does it play and did you add a amp to your set up.

Next Question: Is it necessary to buy the kits to install them, like the ones biketronic etc sells. And lastly how did you hook make your handle bar controls work..

Thanks for the help..

First, your radio is fixable and I'm sure someone here will tell you who.
Next, no aftermarket radio will work with the hand controls without an adapter.
Lastly, I highly recommend Biketronics. Call them, they'll be happy to talk to you.

All of the major brands will work. You will have to use the Biketronics or HawgWired kits to install the radio as the aftermarket one is slightly smaller than the factory unit. You will also need an adapter to keep all of your handlebar controls working. As long as you are in there you may as well add an amp and new 6.5 speakers. I recommend the ARC mini amp 125.2 or the Wetsounds one. You don't have to do it all at once.

Your factory radio is fixable but will never sound as good as aftermarket. You can put a amp on the factory unit and it will be distorted at high volume. As someone said do it right the first time and forget it. I went with the "buy a piece at a time" and it just never sounded right. Get the 6.5 speakers ARC amp and the Hawg Wired kit and be done with it.

I put the Sony CDX-M60UI marine unit in my bike.Works very well I had the hogtunes amp and rear speaker pods already,I added 6.5 "JL front speakers,I used the biketronics control adapter for the handle bar controls and the install kit.You can make your own install kit just need a face plate and spacers for the sides, but you will need the control adapter so the bar controls work. You dont need an amp but its a good improvement over stock, and the 6.5" speakers are also an improvement.Do a search lots to read on the subject.
